Extracurricular Activities
Along with writing, story editing, and offering developmental editing and sensitivity reading through
Salt & Sage Books, I also have a variety of other projects going on at any given time. Here’s a few recent ones:
Ghost Light Vaudeville Society
GLVS is a local non-profit performance group.
We aim to honor our city's vaudeville history as well as create more paid opportunities for marginalized performers in our community, while also supporting causes that are meaningful to us.
Our most recent presentation was Plantasia, produced for Vancouver’s 2019 Alternative Pride festival. Featuring the music of Mort Garson pre-show and in the introduction packages, and eleven incredible trans & gender non-conforming performers from the Pacific Northwest, this show raised money for Trans Alliance B.C.
It was a joy for me to develop the visual style for this show including the pre-show reel of plant-themed archive footage, and introduction slides for each performer featuring photographs from my family's digitized slide collection.
35mm Slide Digitization
Another devastatingly exciting hobby of mine is digitizing 35mm slides. A few years back my Dad drove two rubbermaid bins full of mounted slides from their house on Vancouver Island, and I had an amazing time processing them one by one. There’s a lot of really excellent moments from history hidden away in 35mm slide collections across the country - so if you know anyone looking to go digital, give me a shout!
Arcanadrome
Another space I’ve been dipping my toe into is the world of single player world-building games. There are so many incredible ways to create stories and worlds, so I created Arcanadrome, a game that uses a tarot deck to fill out world-building prompts, slowly building up your world and narrative content from brief encyclopedia-style entries to full short stories.
